Using Social Media to build your brand online is no longer an option, it is an essential part of marketing your business to the community around you and the community further afield.

However, the thought of using various social media platforms to promote one’s business can be mind boggling to some and is sometimes actively avoided and pushed to the ‘I’ll do that later list’

Pushing the task of planning and promoting one’s business through social media to the ‘I’ll do it later list’ is not a good idea for new business owners and entrepreneurs, avoiding the difficult tasks is often an easy option but not always the correct one. The most commonly used Social Media platforms that entrepreneurs and small business owners can benefit from are Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google +, Snapchat and Youtube. There are more out there but if you are just starting out, the above platforms are the best to start with. I would suggest choosing two of the following platforms and posting to them at least once a day to start with and increasing to twice a day to really increase your engagement. After approximately, one month, look into the insights of each channel and see which post has achieved the most engagement. If you have a couple of posts that worked better on a certain platform, reproduce this type of post again and again to achieve great engagement and improve your social media pages reach.

What you post is also important, and should include several different elements such as a Call to Action, An Image, text and a link to your website. Whatever you post, make sure it includes positive text, provides information, includes an image and link, is the right size to be shown on a mobile device and provides engaging info and that after you’ve posted, you listen and provide feedback as necessary.

What you post to social media

Ok, So after you have posted for a month or so, how do you know if things are working?

You look at the FREE insights provided by your chosen social media platform. Look into the insights of each channel and see which post has achieved the most engagement. If you have a couple of posts that worked better on a certain platform, reproduce this type of post again and again to achieve great engagement and improve your social media pages reach.
